There have been many moments throughout my career at McNabb that I will never forget, and so many people whose lives that have been changed that I will always think of and smile. The effort to put in big changes within the field takes effort from both clients and social workers. Many clients become discouraged from their circumstances and give up, causing them to get stuck in a rut or cycle. Working at the McNabb Center means being able to work as a team to break this cycle and give hope to those who feel they may never see the light in their lives again. With compassion and empathy we are able to build others back up one by one.
Words that I will never forget hearing from members in the community are “thank you, you’ve changed my life.” Being able to see a smile from someone who has not smiled in a while is what pushes me to strive in my career at McNabb. When others reach a hand out, we always lift them up. Providing resources and support to those who may need it during times of financial, mental health, physical health, or other struggles is something I am happy to be able to do.
McNabb has pushed me to help clients efficiently, and has given me multiple opportunities for experience and promotion so that I am able to excel in my career as a social worker. I never thought that after my first interview with McNabb years ago and fresh out of college, that I would be where I am today, working with Mobile Crisis where our team pushes to save and improve lives every day.
