Distributes food every other Saturday. The mission is to end child hunger, but they also distribute it to the homeless. Qualifications are more than likely living in Hamblen and having a utility bill of some sort.

This program serves Hamblen County in addition to others. Each household member 18 years or older must provide photo identification cards and proof of all income: pay stubs, award letters, check stubs, or other notifications of income, date of birth, and last five digits of Social Security Number. Each household member must also have proof of ALL expenses: bills, receipts, statements, court documents, or loans.

Appalachian Ministries has a clothing and food pantry that serves Cocke, Grainger, and Jefferson Counties of East Tennessee. Families may visit the food pantry one time per month for services. Food items are free to families provided they have completed an application before their visit. The pantry is designed as a small grocery store where families can choose the necessary food items. To obtain services documentation required is: photo ID, social security cards for everyone in the household, a piece of recent mail with the current address, proof of income (paystub, SNAP award letter, or Social Security award letter), and vehicle registration. Other services may be available to Hamblen residents.

Through a food pantry, thrift store, and resource outlet: The Avenue Dream Center is a Kingdom-driven vessel equipped to change communities. They aim to provoke generational change for those who desire freedom in Christ. They hold the hands of their neighbors and guide them to a foundation of hope, joy, recovery, and freedom. While you do not need to be a resident of Hamblen County to receive services from the Dream Center, you must bring a valid photo ID and proof of address for the first visit to the food pantry.

Lakeway Area Habitat for Humanity

Lakeway Area Habitat for Humanity only builds/repairs in Grainger and Hamblen counties (but we can refer to other counties if needed). For a home build, it depends upon their financial circumstances and needs. For repairs, it is usually for seniors or people with disability or social security – but occasionally, they can do repairs in homes with children in them. They must own the house (can’t be renting), and there are income requirements. Applicants must live or work in Hamblen or Grainger County. Applications can be filed online, or one can be picked up at their office. The documentation needed includes proof of residency, a driver’s license or state ID, proof of income from everyone over 16 in the home, and a copy of the mortgage.

Through the free Tech Alliance program, one can learn to code, receive life skills and career readiness training, and receive job placement support. The Tech Alliance serves traditionally underrepresented populations, including justice-impacted individuals, individuals and families living in poverty, disconnected youth, and youth aging out of the foster care system. To qualify for Tech Alliance, you must meet these requirements: be a resident of Tennessee, be justice-involved (including incarcerated, on probation, parole, or formerly under supervision), be the family member of someone who is justice-involved, opportunity youth, youth aging out of the foster care system, TANF eligible, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and agree to time commitment.

MATS Homeless Shelter

Must be homeless and pass an initial drug screen for everything except for marijuana/THC, BZO, BAR, and TCA. Must also pass a breathalyzer for alcohol, care for themselves without assistance, cannot be on the sex offender registry, or have a history of sex crimes. MATS will approve admission for un-medicated: anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD, Tourette’s Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, and borderline personality disorder if they do not pose harm or threat to themselves, staff, or other residents. Must desire to be at the shelter and want help. You do not need an ID, birth certificate, or SS card.

Samaritan House Family Ministries

Samaritan House Family Ministries provides emergency shelter to women and children who are experiencing a housing crisis in Jefferson, Grainger, Cocke, Hamblen, and Sevier counties. The shelter seeks to create a home environment for residents as they work towards self-sufficiency through employment, savings, and the search for affordable housing. As a faith-based ministry, the shelter is blessed by support from area churches. For shelter, individuals must: possess a photo ID, pass a local police background check, pass a drug test, and contact the shelter to complete a phone inquiry. Residents in the shelter must attend budget classes and Bible Study, follow the house rules, complete daily chores, seek gainful employment and affordable housing, save 80% of income received while in the shelter, and provide weekly proof of income and savings.

Domestic Violence shelters are focused on providing emergency shelter to those in need of housing. They can help victims with physical and emotional support, food, personal items, first aid, and clothing. Individuals must call in advance to obtain the shelter’s location and acceptance. Usually, only one bag per person is allowed. No one can call for the person in need; it must be the one directly affected. Both genders are accepted.

Joy D. Baker Center (Salvation Army)

The Joy D. Baker Center serves women with or without children affected by domestic violence and also serves as a shelter for homeless women with children. Safety is their top priority in monitoring and securing facilities. In addition to providing housing and meals, their 24-hour staff serve as counselors and liaisons with both the court and the school systems and can assist with job placement or referrals to other agencies.

Hamblen County DCS

Open Monday-Friday from 8 am-4:30 pm. DCS investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect. They also administer the state’s foster-care system and work hard to find permanency for children and youth who come into their care. Adult Protective Services

APS staff investigates reports of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of adults who are unable to protect themselves due to physical or mental limitations. APS may investigate abuse/neglect/ exploitation of an adult in any living arrangement including nursing homes, group homes, their own homes, and homes of relatives or friends. The only exception is residents of the state-operated institutions for individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities. National Domestic Violence Hotline

24/7 Response. Provides an on-call number for individuals who present with substance addiction and find themselves in the hospital or have overdosed. Navigators are in the hospitals daily and are available 24/7 by phone to discuss getting into treatment.

Alcoholics Anonymous

There are no qualifications for AA in terms of age or education. AA is a fellowship for people coming together to address drinking problems.

Al-Anon

McNabb’s caring staff works with women and men who have experienced domestic violence. Staff can assist victims in finding the support and resources to live a life free from abuse. In addition to outreach and counseling services, the Center offers a Non-Offender’s Domestic Violence group to educate and work through their situation. Advocates also attend Order of Protection court biweekly and assist with emotional support in Criminal court. McNabb has two outreach Advocates who are on-call 24/7 to assist victims; however, they need support and help.

They protect the children in Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, and Sevier counties. Each CASA agency professionally trains and carefully screens volunteers to become Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children in juvenile court. These volunteers represent the best interests of the victimized child to secure a safe, permanent home. TN state law allows judges to appoint CASA volunteers to “speak up” for the child’s best interests. CASA volunteers do not work for the child’s family, the state, or other interested parties; they solely work for the child.

Tapestry for Women Residential Transition Program’s purpose is to provide safe, sober, and affordable transitional housing in a Christ-centered environment for formerly incarcerated women in Hamblen County. The review committee will evaluate applicants through interviews based on openings.
