The Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment Healing Unit (EmPATH)

In summer of 2024, McNabb will open the first Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing Unit (EmPATH) unit in the State of Tennessee. The goal of the EmPATH unit is to quickly and compassionately stabilize patients experiencing a behavioral health crisis and provide comprehensive transition and discharge planning. The unit provides individuals 18 years and older immediate access to psychiatry for evaluation and medication in a calm, supportive, trauma-informed, therapeutic environment. For a behavioral health crisis, EmPATH serves as an alternative to the traditional visit to an emergency department.
